Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (61)

An entry of 61 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to average 134ppkg for the older cows, 163ppkg for the bulls and 140ppkg and 132ppkg for the heifers and steers under 48 months respectively. A Limousin cow weighing 821kg achieved a top price of £1288.97 from JS & FMH James Lower Rectory Farm. Another Limousin cow weighing 671kg achieved £1221.22 from AG & JK Davies Upper Esgair. AG & JK Davies Upper Esgair also sold a younger Limousin cow for £1155.64. JS & FMH James Lower Rectory Farm  receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. More cows are required from week to fulfil this outstanding demand. Only 9 fat cattle on sale today sold to average 222ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach sold three fat heifers to a top price of 268ppkg for a Limousin weighing 489kg, 265ppkg for a British Blue weighing 572kg and a Limousin achieved 261ppkg.A Limousinx heifer from D C Jones & Son Tyhir made 218ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (54) to 196ppkg from C J Roberts & Son Three Gates. Others to 186ppkg from R F Wilde & Sons White Abbey. Average of 167ppkg.

An entry of 3760 Prime lambs, sold to an overall average of 236ppkg.

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (102) to 245ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel & H G Ellis & Co Tynywern. Others to 243ppkg from E E Powell Cilpentre. Average of 223ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (102) to 219ppkg from C M E Jones Court Calmore. Average of 223ppkg.

CULL EWE (2694)

An entry of 2694 met with a slightly better trade to average £48.87 for the ewes and £58.05 for the rams on offer. Ewes topped the sale at £101 per head from D Hurdley Maydene. Rams topped at £100 per head from J Stonall Nursery Cottage. Weekly sale of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Lambs at approx 12 noon.  


A surprisingly large entry of store sheep. 180 ewes and hoggs and their lambs sold to another sharp trade with all being sold. Overall average of £126 per couple. Top price of £158 for ewes with twins from D H Owen Aberystwyth and top of £164 for hoggs and lambs for F Bailey Pensarn.


A catalogue entry of 30 cows and calves where sold at the market on Monday 24th June. Presented by N M Roberts & Partners Oak Mount was a Pedigree Limousin cow with a pedigree Limousin Bull calf at foot which sold for £2300. Also from N M Roberts was a Limousinx cow with a Limousinx heifer calf at foot which sold for £1660. A consignment of 8 Continentalx cows with Continentalx calves at foot from W Ashton & Co Waengitten sold to an average of £1715 and two In calf cows from the same home achieved £1400 and £1320. Four British Bluex heifers In Calf to Limousin Bull and due to calf July onwards from R J M Shearer Tynreithin Hall sold for £1720, £1520, £1500 and £1500. D P Evans Moelygarth sold four Limousinx 1st calvers with calves at foot for £1560, £1660, £1800 and £1420. Next Sale of Cows and Calves will take place on Monday 8th July 2013.
