Welshpool Livestock Sales

Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a fantastic auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (54)

A sizeable entry of Over thirty month cattle sold to average 118ppkg for the older cows, Under 48 month old heifers sold to 151ppkg, cows at  48 – 72 months sold to an average of 133ppkg, a bull at 72 months or older sold to 119.50ppkg. An Aberdeen Angus cow weighing 782kg from RH & SH Gwyther, Llan Hall achieved the top market price of £1063.52; therefore Mr Gwyther receives the Briarwood Products Limited Prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.  A Simmental cow weighing 719kg made £992.22 from EE Davies & Co, Dyffryn Gwyn. An older Limousin bull weighing 817kg made a total of £972.23 from TH Turner & Co, Red House.

A Limousin heifer under 72 months that weighed 621kg made £1099.17 from DP Evans, Moel-Y-Garth Farm. An under 48 month British Blue heifer weighing 579kg made a total of £1158 from SJ Smith, Penybryn.  

FAT CATTLE (12)

A larger entry of 12 fat cattle were entered in this weeks sale. A Limousin heifer weighing 529kg achieved a price of 258ppkg, presented by GW & BA Haynes, Trefnant Isaf. The Briarwood Products Limited Prize of £25 for the highest price pence per kilo goes to Mr Haynes, Trefnant Isaf. A Limousin heifer weighing 530kg also presented by GW & BA Haynes, Trefnant Isaf  made a price of 257ppkg. A Limousin Bull weighing 523kg made 207ppkg from J Corfield & Sons, Fairfield. A Limousin bull weighting 557kg presented again by J Corfield & Sons, Fairfield achieved 208ppkg.

 PRIME LAMBS (5892)

An entry of 5892 prime lambs, achieving an average of 178ppkg.

Super Lights (11) to 152 from EP Jones & Son, Nant-y-Nodyn

Lights (634) to 187ppkg from TM Davies, Wynnstay Farm. Others to 184ppkg from EP Jones & Son, Nant-y-Nodyn. Average of 171ppkg.

Standards (1758) to 205ppkg from DE Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Others to 200ppkg from NG & GG Davies, Trawsgelli. Average of 177ppkg.

Medium’s (2651) to 212ppkg from A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn. Others to 206ppkg from DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands Farm. Average of 179ppkg

Heavies (755) to 208ppkg from Tynybryn Farms. Others to 206ppkg from D Jones, Graig Fach. Average of 175ppkg   

Over Weights (83) to 192ppkg from DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro. Other to 184ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Average of 171ppkg.

CULL EWE (4731)

There were a larger number of entries again this week seeing an average price of £38 for the ewes and £48 for the rams. Cull rams topped the sale this week with a price of £125 from EM Gwilt, Cwm Mawr; others reached £98.50 from VT & S Hamer, Trinnant. Ewes achieved a top price of £108 from MArtrose Meat Brokers. Others to £106 from PV Jerman, Upper Pentre. Weekly sale of cull sheep to follow immediately after the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.

STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 

Store Lambs: A total of 600 Store lambs were entered achieving an average price of £50 per head with the top price of £67.50 from Cefncoed Farms for mixed and clean lambs. Theave lambs achieved a top price of £62 from En & EG Griffiths and Ram lambs made a top price of £64 from BE Thomas, Blaen Y Cwm

Store Ewes: This week a total of 2086 breeding ewes were entered with the top price of £136 coming from WCG Davies & Son for yearling mules. Two year old Texel ewes achieved a top price of £90 coming from RE Evans and three year old Suffolk Ewes achieved a top price of £84 from J & J Stafford. £70 was the top price gained for mule ewe lambs coming from P & C Marsh, Glyn Farm. Same again next Monday with store lambs being sold from 10:30am with breeding ewes at 11am followed by rams.

DAIRY (19)

An excellent entry of 19 Dairy Cattle met with a sound trade once again. Three British Friesian type heifers from RR Corfield & Co, Bron-y-nant met with a solid demand and sold to a top of £1800 with further price of £1780 and £1700. WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwden sold a Debbie Jo Drake sired heifer for £1900. Wa-Del Hayden daughter from the same home sold for £1820. DN Williams, Gilfach sold a heifer for £2030 whilst I Cadwallader made £1810 of a second calver. A breakdown of all of the prices achieved are as follows:- £2000+ 1 lot; 1800-2000 3 lots; 1600-1800 6 lots; 1400-1600 1 lot; 1200-1400 5 lots; <1200 3 lots.
