No Festive low-flying over Welshpool

Europe’s elite fighter pilots will not be flying Mid Wales training sortes over the Festive week, military chiefs have confirmed.

Low flying over the area will cease on December 22 and continue again in the New Year.

The reduction in exercises means our skies will only be used for an hour a day on 16 days during December, making it the quietest month for military manoeuvres in the area his year.

A spokesperson said: “The final decision to use a area is taken on the day itself as this kind of training can take place only when there is good visibility from cloud. It is likely that some of the slots will not be used, but no additional times will be added to those already booked.”
