Opik no longer Liberal candidate

Former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik has been dropped as parliamentary candidate for Montgomeryshire.

Opik, currently starring in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, lost his seat at the election earlier this year to Conservative Glyn Davies.

It has now emerged that he is no longer the party's candidate for Montgomeryshire following the group's annual meeting.

Barry Long, Montgomeryshire Lib Dem chairman, said: "Mr Opik remained the official parliamentary candidate for Montgomeryshire for six months after the election.That period has now elapsed and Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats do not have a parliamentary candidate."

Mr Opik could still chose to apply for the candidate's position.
