Title fight in Welshpool?

21/08/2014 @ 09:46

Local boxer Warren Sinden has opened up the prospect of a title fight in his own backyard next year ahead of his latest confirmed date on October 5.

The professional fighter has announced his next fight will take place at Derby County’s football ground against an, as yet, unnamed Welsh opponent ahead of a potential fight for a Welsh belt in 2015.

Sinden has also confirmed that he will be preparing for October with more training in Welshpool as he tries to find the right balance between professional boxing commitments and his new job at Great Escape and Fitness.

“I am in really good shape already,” said Sinden, who has amassed a big local following from his previous encounters. “For this next fight I’m preparing in Welshpool more around my work commitments at Great Fitness. I’m still in Birmingham with Mark Wall, my trainer and manager, and we've already started sparring.”

Sinden last fought in March with another decent points victory in Birmingham and he feels the time is right to step up his game.

“My fitness levels are there and I’m stronger than ever after spending the summer season break working on my fitness and strength.

“People look at March as my last fight date and think I've been away from the gym, but that’s not me. I'm always training and I am always fit.”

He has also picked up a local sponsor with Alun Brooks (pictured with Warren) stepping in to support after watching his last tussle from ringside.

“We met up and agreed a deal,” said Sinden. “Alun’s been great and the support is very much needed. This will allow me to dedicate to training more and cover some training expenses.”

To fit everything in, there have been plenty of early morning alarms as he combines gym work with running in Leighton Woods. But he says it will all be worth and promises a real show for his fans who are again expected to travel in large numbers for the Sunday day time fight.

“All this training will show in my next performance which is seven weeks away and I’m flying. My manager has had confirmation that my next opponent (in Derby) will be a Welsh lad, as I've been given the nod to challenge for the Welsh belt next year, which will bring a show to Welshpool.

“But my two eyes are firmly fixed on Derby for October 5. I wasn't quite fit for four rounds in my last fight as I was conditioned for longer rounds, so you'll see a faster pace from me this time around. As always I can’t thank my supporters enough as the demand for tickets is already big. It will be another great night for everyone I’m sure!”

Tickets for the daytime show in one of the ground’s hospitality venues cost £35 general and £60 for ringside. A bus will be organised from Welshpool for £10.
