Four Welshpool area schools closed

Four schools in the Welshpool area have closed today (Monday) as the freezing temperatures knocked off heating and water supplies.

Ysgol Maesydre, Ardwyn School, Oldford School and Ysgol Rhiw Bechan were all forced to send pupils home as arctic temperatures burst pipes and caused heating issues.

Annoyed parents from Maesydre contacted mywelshpool to complain that the school's late closure after 10am this morning caused them headaches.

One father said: "We've heard the heating is not working for one reason or another so I am driving from Newtown to pick up my son and will have to bring him back to work with me. It's not ideal and I know a lot of parents that are struggling to get their children picked up and looked after today."

 With the cold snap expected to continue this week, mywelshpool will bring you an update each evening by 10pm in co-ordination with Powys County Council.
