The local police have stepped up their purge on underage drinkers and last night issued a £50 Fixed-Penalty notice to a 16 year-old for buying booze from an off license in the town.
The youngster also received a pub watch ban via the Welshpool Behave or be Banned (BOBB) scheme and licensees in the Welshpool area have been reminded to be vigilant and challenge 21 Proof-of-Age checks and the use of false identification.
A spokesperson said: “Underage drinking has been highlighted as a PACT priority for the area in which licensing enforcement checks will be conducted over the Christmas period to ensure compliance of the licensing laws. If any licensed premises would like advice or guidance on relevant Proof-of-Age policies, please contact Powys County Council Trading Standards or the Dyfed-Powys Police Licensing Officer at Welshpool Police station on 101.”
