Changing Places facility to be opened at Ann Holloway Centre

Bit by bit the Ann Holloway Centre is returning back to life with another weclome addition confirmed by the Mayor this week.

The centre provided much needed day centre facilities to Welshpool’s elderly which have been sorely missed since being closed three years ago due to escalating costs.

But with the newly formed Welshpool Community Haven starting to offer the services every Friday, the Mayor confirmed that a much-need facility, one of only two in Powys, is set to be opened.

At the Town Council Services and Property Committee meeting, Cllr Nick Howells, explained during a debate raised by Cllr Sally Fitzgerald’s question about play park inclusivity facilities that the building’s Changing Places facility was soon to open.

“Today (Wednesday), we cleared out the Changing Place at the Ann Holloway Centre. It’s going to have a clean and we are arranging to have the hoist serviced, which we need to do under legislation, and then the Changing Places at the day centre will be fully operational.”

The only other public facility of its kind is near Machynlleth at the Osprey Centre, so Welshpool’s will be welcomed by those with severe handicaps requiring the help of specialist equipment.

Meanwhile, Cllr Fitzgerald said that Welshpool needs to provide more inclusive facilities at its play parks, and while accepting “the budget just isn’t there” she wants to investigate the possibility of community fundraising and will meet the Town Council Finance Officer in the New Year to discuss.
