Prime Minister’s nod for Alfie’s card

18/12/2023 @ 10:01

The UK Prime Minister has a copy of a Christmas card in his office designed by a pupil from Ysgol Meifod.

Alfie Pritchard won a competition run by Montgomeryshire MP, Craig Williams, to design his Christmas card, which was delivered by hand to Rishi Sunak by Mr Williams at the Houses of Parliament.

Alfie won a £20 National Book Token, which was presented to him by the MP along with a copy of the card dedicated to him by the Prime Minister.

Mr Williams said: “It was fantastic to have received so many brilliant entries from pupils across Montgomeryshire for my Christmas card competition, and picking a winner was one of my hardest decisions of the year!

“The theme of this year’s competition was pupils’ favourite scenes in Montgomeryshire at Christmas. Alfie’s design stood out not just for his very realistic depiction of Powis Castle at Christmas, but also for the attention to detail he had clearly applied.

“It has been great to send out Alfie’s design on my Christmas card this year, including to the Prime Minister. A huge thank you to all pupils who took part, and to school staff for co-ordinating.”

On receiving his prize, Alfie said: “I really enjoyed designing the card. I didn’t know I had won, and it was very exciting to be given my card today by Craig and also that it was signed by the Prime Minister.”

Second prize went to Erin Dutton of Brynhafren CP School, and third prize went to Martha Rutter of Montgomery Church in Wales School. They have won £15 and £10 National Book Token’s respectively.
