Lake Welshpool!

03/01/2024 @ 09:47

Welshpool was very nearly cut off again overnight as the River Severn headed towards its morning peak causing problems on most major roads in and out of the town.

Storm and flood warnings were issued last night as the relentless rain continued to fall and the area woke up this morning to chaotic scenes on the roads.

The road to Berriew from Coed y Dinas was closed, as was the Airport Road, but the Moors Straight, where photographer Phil Blagg captured these images this morning, remained passable for now.

Motorists took to Facebook this morning to ask if routes were clear with the community pulling together to help each other out.

The rivers Severn and Vyrnwy are expected to peak in the coming hours before a spell of dry weather from this afternoon will hopefully return us to normal as soon as possible.

The advice remains in place to only travel if essential.
