Skatepark timeline ‘isn’t slipping’

One town councillor driving forward Welshpool’s plans for a new skatepark has said plans are on track and timelines are not slipping.

At a meeting this week, Cllr Alison Davies said that the new ‘bigger and better’ park would be completed towards the end of 2024/early 2025.

It raised a few eye brows in the chamber with one councillor asking for this to become the council’s priority to make it happen after three years of waiting.

But Cllr Davies spoke to MyWelshpool last night to explain that the date mentioned was always the target for the project.

“To be clear, we have no indication that it won’t be completed within the original timeframe which is late 2024 or very early in ’25,” said Cllr Davies.

“I’d hate people to think our schedule is slipping. We’re awaiting the bespoke design and Canvas (specialist company) will be going back to the young people with that.

“Personally, I’d expect there to be a few refinements before the final design is agreed but everything is going in the right direction.”

Cllr Davies said at the council meeting this week that meetings are also being held to secure Lottery funding as well as other sources for financing to cover the cost of the project.
