Councillors query Pinewood hoardings need

The major renovation work on the Pinewood Tavern has been warmly welcomed by the Town Council, but concerns have been voiced about the hoardings erected on the pavement.

At the last Town Council planning meeting, councillors were asked to consider a discharge of conditions regarding flooring in the pub, but the debate centred around the front of the building.

Cllr Sally Fitzgerald asked: “I want to know how long the hoardings are going to be out there on the street? Ideally, we want that moving as soon as possible, so can we ask that question please?”

Cllr Nick Howells, the Town Mayor, added: “I don’t see why those hoardings need to be at least 3m out from the front.

“Basically, what they have done is put the hoardings up to create their own parking space. Nothing to do with the renovation of the building. It’s there so that they can park their vans every day.”

Councillors unanimously backed the discharge application, but will write to the developers to address the hoardings issue.

The building has been purchased by local businessman, Mike Harris, who is investing heavily to bring it back to life as a pub, whilst converting the upstairs into holiday lets.

Last year we met with Mike, and his wife Rhian, to discuss his plans, You can watch that video here.
