Welshpool council tax share confirmed for 3.9% rise

01/02/2024 @ 10:38

Welshpool householders will be paying 3.9% extra on the Council Tax slice that will go to the Town Council.

The Council Tax is made up of several segments, with Powys County Council, Dyfed-Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service all announcing above-inflation increases of their shares.

But Welshpool Town Council will buck the trend by keeping to a 3.9% rise (below 4% current inflation rate), despite increasing financial pressure being placed on the local authority.

The rise was passed unanimously by the town council at last night’s full meeting, with the full budget set to reach £713,075 for the next financial year. The rise will add about £10 to the average council tax bill.

Last week, Dyfed-Powys Police approved a 6.2% increase to their precept, with Powys County Council and the fire service set to increase their share by a similar amount.
