Trio to contest vacant Welshpool Town Council seat

Three people will contest the vacant seat on Welshpool Town Council with an election called for February 29.

Morag Bailey, Michael Davies and Richard Ogilvy have all been nominated for the Llanerchyddol seat that was vacated following a councillor’s resignation last year.

Ms Bailey will run as an Independent, while the remaining two have not indicated any political allegiance on the council’s ‘Statement as to Persons Nominated’ form, released this morning.

It’s another healthy sign for democracy in the town which has avoided the co-option route that had become common up until a couple of years ago.
