School transport cancelled tomorrow

07/02/2024 @ 04:58

All school transport has been cancelled tomorrow in Montgomeryshire as officials react to the rapidly changing weather situation expected to hit us tonight.

With an Amber Warning for snow and ice in place from 8am, education chiefs said that the “detailed weather forecast for Thursday is showing quite a high accumulation of snow in the north of the county to fall between 4am and 9am”.

As a precaution, Powys County Council has cancelled all home to school and college transport tomorrow for all schools that are in the Montgomeryshire area.

This means Llanidloes, Newtown, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Machynlleth and Welshpool schools (secondary and primary) will not receive school transport.

The council statement added that with the weather expected to improve through the day, a normal transport service will resume on Friday.

At present, all schools in our area are open, but we are expecting an update later on tonight as head teachers clarify the situation with County Hall following the transport announncement.
