Town Council to back 1940s Weekend

26/02/2024 @ 10:49

Welshpool Town Council has agreed to back this year’s 1940s Weekend by providing free use of the Town Hall.

The event has become a fixture on the town’s social calendar, attracting hundreds of visitors into Welshpool from across the United Kingdom for three days of war-time themed entertainment.

Organiser Alan Crowe recently revealed that it costs over £25,000 a year to host the event, and he has a year-round timetable of fundraising activities to meet the cost.

And his presentation to the Town Council for support was welcomed, with several councillors praising Mr Crowe for the work he does in the town, and agreeing to support.

Councillors at the Events and Tourism Committee meeting agreed unanimously to make the Town Hall available to the organisers free of charge, excluding the downstairs market hall.

The 2024 1940s Weekend will take place across Welshpool on the last weekend of September.
