Concerns over impact of new car chargers

28/03/2024 @ 08:39

Eight new car chargers planned for the McDonald’s site will cause bigger problems for residents there already facing issues of nuisance parking and litter.

That’s the claim from one councillor after Welshpool Town Council’s Planning Committee was asked last night for their views on the plans.

The EVC bays will take up existing parking spaces at the petrol station site on Buttington Roundabout, but our initial story announcing the plans earlier this week was met by a storm of objections from readers.

These were repeated by Cllr Billy Spencer last night who said that, if approved, it will “create more congestion outside of the site and more litter and problems for people living down there”.

He also pointed out that the current EVC bays in the town were scarcely used.

His comments were noted, but Chair, Cllr David France, said that there would be a growing need for more car chargers as electric car sales continue to rise.

The committee voted that it would not object to the plans that have been submitted by Rontec Service Stations.
