Four-horse race in Police Commissioner election

08/04/2024 @ 09:42

Four candidates will be vying for your vote when the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner election is held on May 2.

Plaid Cymru, Labour, The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have all fielded candidates for the election, which could be an interesting pre-cursor to the General Election expected later this year.

And there’s a strong local flavour to the field, with incumbent, Dafydd Llywelyn, who hails from the Meifod area, running again for Plaid Cymru, and Guilsfield county councillor, Ian Harrison, officially unveiled as the Conservative candidate.

Labour have named Philippa Thompson as their candidate, and the Lib Dems will be hoping that Justin Griffiths can make an impact on the voters.

The latter pair have not disclosed their home addresses on the official voting, only declaring that it is ‘inside the Dyfed-Powys Police area’, but both have recently campaigned for local council seats in south west Wales.

Candidates (in no particular order)

Philippa Thompson (Labour)

Justin Griffiths (Liberal Democrats)

Ian Harrison (Conservatives)

Dafydd Llywelyn (Plaid Cymru)
