Welshpool to have public ‘bleed kits’

30/04/2024 @ 09:34

In response to local reports of recent knife crime and highly publicised incidents across the UK, Welshpool is to have two publicly accessible Bleeding Control Kits.

The kits are becoming more popular across the UK and can help members of the public immediately respond to knife attacks, as well as other incidents that cause major bleeding.

At the latest full Town Council meeting, the administration updated councillors by explaining: “We could say we don’t need bleed kits which is great, and of course if we don’t use them, then great as well. But because there have been some knife incidents in the town, it is worth having two and we have the grant for both.”

The kits will be purchased thanks to a grant from the town’s New Street Trust, with one to be located inside the defibrillator at the Town Hall, and a second location to be decided.

What’s in a ‘Bleeding Control Kit’

Haemostatic Gauze Dressing – Works to stop life-threatening bleeding after just 60 seconds of compression with the aid of coagulation granules.

Chest Seal – A specially designed dressing for emergency management of penetrating chest wounds.

Tourniquet – Designed to stop catastrophic bleeding to limbs.
