Welshpool to launch its own Repair Café

06/05/2025 @ 12:04

This Saturday will see the launch of Welshpool’s very own Repair Café which will be based at the historic Cockpit building.

Last month we ran a story highlighting that the idea was being floated to test the water, and the response has prompted those responsible to give it a shot!

“Every year, we throw away huge amounts in Wales, even items which have very little wrong with them, and could easily be used again after a simple repair,” said Alison Davies.

“Many people don’t feel confident to repair things themselves and sometimes we forget that we can have things repaired, instead of using up valuable resources by buying new items.

“As well as being better for the environment, our Repair Café aims to save people money, share precious repair skills that are being lost, and bring the local community together at a low-key, enjoyable event.”

Between 10.30am and 1pm, a group of volunteer repair experts will be available to help make all possible repairs, free of charge. Those visiting are invited to bring along their broken items from home, including toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, bikes, toys and crockery.

Anything broken (other than microwaves or white goods) is welcome and can usually be repaired by Repair Cafe volunteer specialists, who almost always have the necessary know-how!

By promoting repairs, Welshpool Repair Café wants to help reduce waste going to landfill and is being supported by Repair Café Wales, which has established a network of volunteer-led Repair Cafés across Wales around the values of waste reduction, community cohesion and skill-sharing.
