Unperturbed by the lack of support for the past two events organised by Welshpool Town Council, the local authority is to push forward with a raft of new events in the hope of generating footfall and funds into the town.
Last night’s Events & Planning Committee meeting showed that the Tina Turner tribute made a loss and last month’s carnival attracted lower-than-usual crowds.
But nevertheless, the draft minutes from last night’s meeting which we were unable to cover due to staff unavailability, show that a Sports Day, Walking Festival, Food Trail, Dance Festival and Major Quiz night are all in the works!
Councillors agreed to support a huge Mayor’s Quiz evening at the Town Hall on October 10 to raise funds for the restoration of the building.
They also agreed in principle to support the Mayor in creating a Dance Festival, and to work with external bodies to host a Food Trail and a Sports Day later this year, while also backing Cllr Bill Rowell’s bid to bring a Walking Festival to the town.
However, a proposal to hold a pantomime in the town has been shelved until 2026, according to the draft minutes.
