Residents living in and around Welshpool town centre are demanding action to stop anti-social drivers using the area as a 'race track'.
Several have been in touch with MyWelshpool to complain that despite high profile accidents in recent years and “numerous complaints” the problem seems to be getting worse.
Welshpool town councillors discussed the issue at a meeting last month with the Mayor, Cllr Phil Owen, saying they weren’t just ‘boy’ racers but also females and adults “who should know better”.
We shared our readers' concerns with Dyfed-Powys Police to find out what is being done, and they have promised to come back to us after one fed-up resident told us, under condition of anonymity: “There is a number of drivers driving throughout Welshpool at very high speeds, well over the 20mph limit. Loud back firings exhausts, driving around Berriew Street Car Park very fast and loud till very late.”
The resident called on the police to use the town’s CCTV to catch the offenders “before someone is killed”.
As soon as Dyfed-Powys Police responds we will share their statement but they did respond to concerns on Red Bank recently by conducting speed checks (pictured).
