The Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys, Dafydd Llywelyn has launched the recruitment process for a new Chief Constable to lead Dyfed-Powys Police.
In April it was announced that previous Chief Constable, Dr. Richard Lewis (pictured) was to retire after a 25-year career in policing and, following his retirement in June, Mr Llywelyn has been consulting with staff and officers to gain an understanding on their opinions on what qualities they are looking for in a leader, areas a new leader should focus on, and on the recruitment process itself.
He said: “This is a pivotal appointment at a time of opportunity and change. I’m looking for an exceptional leader who shares our commitment to community-based policing and who can inspire confidence both within the organisation and among the communities we serve.
“The successful candidate will need to demonstrate integrity, innovation, and the ability to drive forward high-performing, preventative policing.”
Dyfed-Powys Police covers the largest geographic police area in England and Wales, and has a strong community focus and innovative Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention model.
The next Chief Constable will be expected to continue building on this foundation, ensuring effective and visible policing across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys.
The Commissioner is inviting applications from dynamic and experienced leaders who are committed to improving outcomes for the public, supporting the workforce, and strengthening partnerships across the region.
Key dates in the process include:
Closing date: 5pm, Friday, August 29, 2025
Shortlisting: September 8
Familiarisation opportunities: from September 9
Interviews: September 22 and 23
