VJ Day Sunset Service this weekend

As part of the town's ongoing celebrations to mark the 80^th anniversary of VJ Day, a Sunset Service of Thanksgiving will be held in Maesgwastad Cemetery, Welshpool, this Saturday with anyone invited to attend from 7pm.

The location is the final resting place for a number of the town’s veterans of World War 2 who returned home, and, in particular, several who fought the Japanese right up until the end in Burma and other Asian countries.

It is hoped that families of those veterans along with members of the public will turn up to pay respects. Those attending are asked to park in town and walk to the cemetery.

A collection bucket will be available for anyone wishing to make a donation towards a commemorative bench for the town’s Memorial Garden.
