Trustee to run 45km to mark 45 years of lifesaving support

A charity trustee will run 45kms to raise awareness and funding for Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre (MFCC), which has been helping and supporting female and male victims and survivors of domestic abuse across mid Wales and beyond for 45 years.

Duncan Kerr, a former Social Worker and now a County Councillor, is running from Bath to Bristol and back on Sunday, October 12.

Since Covid the number of people accessing this vital service has increased fourfold from just over 200 in 2017/18, to nearly 900 in 2024/25, and Duncan said that fundraising is becoming a tougher challenge.

“I had the good fortune to find out about the work of MFCC when I worked as a Social Worker for Powys Children’s Services,” he said.

“Having worked in many councils across the country, I can say that I have never come across a more dedicated, professional and, most importantly, local provider of domestic abuse services.

“The staff of MFCC know intimately the communities and people in North Powys and provide an excellent service which I am sure has saved many lives. But they can't continue to do this without your help, so if you are able please support me.”

Although the charity says it is very grateful for the financial support it receives from Powys County Council, they stressed it comes nowhere near meeting the full costs.

Domestic abuse causes huge psychological, emotional, physical and social damage and requires dedicated and professional support.

You can support Duncan’s efforts through www.familycrisis.co.uk, or the charity’s Facebook page.
