A new group has been set up to help bereaved parents

A new support group has been set up in Newtown to help parents who have experienced the loss of a baby.

The Loss Lounge for Bereaved Parents has been created by two local women, who themselves have gone through the heartbreak of losing a child. They said they found there was “little to no support” in the area and wanted to provide a safe, understanding space for others in similar situations.

The group meets on the last Friday of every month at Platform 1 in Newtown.

In addition to the regular meetings, the organisers hold a number of community events.

On Friday, September 26, they will host Let’s Do Dinner, a fundraising evening for Hope House Children’s Hospice. Bereaved parents, their friends, and family are invited to bring a dish to share. The evening will also feature a memory corner, mocktails, and a raffle.

On Wednesday, October 15, a Wave of Light event will take place at All Saints Church in Newtown, starting at 6.30pm. This will be followed by a quiz night on Friday, November 7, at Hafan y Afon. Tickets are available through the venue’s website and directly from them.

The organisers said they hope the group and these events will provide comfort and support to bereaved families while raising awareness and funds for related causes.
