Call to take survey as campaign to save sixth forms continues

Pupils, parents and carers of high school children are being encouraged to take part in a survey that will gauge opinion ahead of a decision that could close Welshpool and Llanfyllin sixth forms.

Powys County Council wants to modernise and improve its sixth form delivery, and one of the favoured options on the table is to centralise a sixth form at a new campus in Newtown.

But it hasn’t gone down well with the high schools impacted who are determined to present a more sensible option of offering tri-school sixth form delivery between Llanfyllin, Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion instead.

And now a survey has been issued to see what parents think.

“Post-16 education in Powys is currently under review, and it’s vital that the voices of our community are heard,” a spokesperson for the survey said.

“We’re encouraging all pupils, parents and carers to complete Powys County Council’s questionnaire and share your views on the future of sixth form education in North Powys.”

The questionnaire must be completed by November 14 by clicking here.
