Major mountain bike tracks project taking shape in Llanfyllin

30/10/2025 @ 08:55

Llanfyllin is in the midst of creating three professional-grade mountain bike tracks which has received the approval of a pair of professional riders who visited the town.

The project is a collaboration between Llanfyllin Town Council, Ysgol Llanfyllin, British Cycling, and Revolution Bike Park, and will provide outstanding opportunities for outdoor learning, sport and recreation.

And it received a huge boost when Ysgol Llanfyllin welcomed professional mountain bike riders Veronique Sandler and Sam Hodgson to the school.

Both riders, who have links to the Llanfyllin area, donated professional mountain bike helmets for use at the school and spoke with pupils about their experiences competing nationally and internationally.

Veronique and Sam have also offered to donate their time and expertise to help coach and mentor young riders on the school’s new tracks once they are completed – an exciting opportunity for pupils inspired by two of the UK’s leading freeriders.

Headteacher Mr Dewi Owen said: “This is a truly inspiring project that will benefit both our pupils and the community for years to come. My sincere thanks go to all the partners involved for making this dream a reality for the young people of Llanfyllin.”

Work is currently underway to create three professional-grade mountain bike tracks in Llwyn Woods, behind the school.

A newly formed community cycling club, made up of community and partner representatives, will manage access to the tracks, which will be open to pupils during the school day and to the wider community in the evenings and at weekends.
