MyWelshpool readers can help shape future council spending

04/12/2025 @ 10:07

Residents in Welshpool and the surrounding area are being encouraged to have their say on how Powys County Council should spend money on local services for the 2026–27 financial year and beyond.

The council has launched a public survey asking residents to give their views on key priorities including schools, social care, and maintaining roads. The feedback will help shape decisions as the authority works to balance its budget in the face of rising financial pressures.

Cllr David Thomas, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Transformation, said Powys’ rural nature means it costs more to deliver day-to-day services than in urban areas.

“Every year, the council must set a budget that determines how much funding is allocated to essential services,” he said. “With increasing financial pressures, we face tough choices as we work to balance the budget while protecting vital services. We want to hear your ideas for improvements, savings, or ways to raise extra income.”

Residents in Newtown can complete the online survey or pick up paper and Easy Read copies at local libraries. Completed paper forms can be returned to library staff or emailed to the council.

The survey is open until midnight on January 4.
