Were these Welshpool signs asking the 20 or 30mph question?

Welshpool motorists faced a confusing welcome to the town yesterday, with speed signs indicating they should not exceed both 20 and 30mph!

The controversial speed limits are set to be a big issue over the next two months as political parties fight for our votes, and yesterday’s glitch won’t help matters.

Reader Lynn Andrew sent us the picture as she travelled in from the Oswestry direction and turned into Salop Road during school pick-up time.

“Which speed do they want me to use?” said Lynn. “It seems 20mph on my side of the road, and 30 when overtaking?

“Honestly! These signs are so unreliable, how can we expect visitors to know what to do?”

While this area is a temporary slow zone during school pick-ups, the 20mph zones in built up areas have divided opinion.

The Labour Welsh Government has released figures showing how 20mph limits have made our roads safer, but parties like the Welsh Conservatives and Reform UK have vowed to scrap them if they get into power.
