A charity antiques valuation day to raise vital needed funds for the restoration of Christ Church, Bwlch-y-Cibau, near Llanfyllin and the upkeep of the village community centre will be held this summer.

Lady Linlinthgow, owner of Bryngwyn Hall and Estate, Bwlch-y-Cibau, is organising the event at the village community centre on Sunday, June 7, from 11am-3pm in collaboration with leading regional fine art auctioneers, Halls Fine Art of Shrewsbury.

Silver, jewellery and bijouterie specialist Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley and senior general valuer of all items, Alexander Clement, will be available to professionally value a wide range of items.

Tickets for the event cost £10, which includes the valuation of up to three items, together with refreshments, including, tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes and quiche. Additional items valued, including sets and pairs, will cost £1 each, with all the proceeds going to the two village charities.

People with large items of furniture or collections to be valued can take along photographs of them for the valuers to see or home visits may be arranged by the valuers.

Lady Linlithgow is hoping that people living in Bwlch-y-Cibau, Llanfyllin and surrounding area will take advantage of the opportunity to have antiques, jewellery, silver, paintings and family heirlooms professionally valued.

“The church and the community centre need a lot of restoration work and I thought an antiques valuation day would be an ideal way to raise money,” she said. “I am certain there are people living in around Bwlch-y-Cibau who have antiques which they would like valued.

“We are trying to keep the village alive by holding events throughout the year.”

Maryanne said she and Alexander are looking forward to the event and urged local people to bring along their treasures as well as items that may have been stored away for years.

“The beauty of attending these valuations events is that we never know what we are going to see and there are often pleasant surprises for the owners,” she added. “Only last week, we sold a collection of jewellery, which we discovered at a similar charity valuation event in Kington, for £9,000.

“It is especially important that homeowners receive current valuations for valuable and treasured items to ensure that they are not paying too much or too little for their insurance cover. Prices fluctuate with the markets and the last thing you want, in the event of an item being lost, is for it to be undervalued!”

Grade II listed Christ Church was designed by prominent Victorian architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott and built from 1862-64. A village memorial for both World Wars is located alongside the churchyard wall.

The antiques valuation event follows Bryngwyn Hall Summer Fayre over the weekend of May 30 and 31 from 10.30am to 5pm daily.
