A film about the urgency of the climate and nature crises is coming to towns and villages across Montgomeryshire.
Communities in Montgomery, Llanfyllin, Welshpool, Berriew, Newtown and Machynlleth are organising screenings as part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the need for a national emergency plan.
The People’s Emergency Briefing is the film version of the national briefing delivered to more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall in November 2025.
Leading experts explained the likely impacts of climate and nature breakdown on food security, health, national security, infrastructure and the economy, alongside practical evidence on how risks can still be reduced.
The hard-hitting film balances the real threats to society with the hopeful message that it is still possible to avoid the worst outcomes – but only if governments act now.
Organisers say the aim is to make people across the country aware of the urgency of the situation and to call on their MPs to push for a national broadcast of the briefing.
Community groups Climate Action Newtown and Hafan Yr Afon, BRACE Llanfyllin, Montgomery Energy Group and individual members of the public are behind the screenings across Montgomeryshire.
Llanfyllin organiser, Lesley Sweet, said: “I wanted to share this briefing with my friends and neighbours because I’m worried about the future for my son and for all of us. The film isn’t about telling people what to do, it’s about us all coming together to hear the facts and thinking through what it means for our communities.”
They said Steve Witherden MP has confirmed attendance at Llanfyllin and Berriew.
The film runs for 50 minutes and is followed by group discussion led by facilitators for the audience to consider the implications of what they have seen and what actions they expect to take.
