Gold for a Welshpool primary school

30/04/2026 @ 09:40

Welshpool Church in Wales Primary school has been awarded the prestigious Cymraeg Campus Gold Award, recognising the school’s outstanding commitment to promoting and celebrating the Welsh language.

As part of the verification day, seven visitors came to the school to see Welsh in action across all areas of school life.

The day began with the Criw Cymraeg leading a fantastic assembly, followed by a presentation showcasing the school’s Welsh journey and the many ways pupils use Welsh every day.

The Criw Cymraeg also confidently answered questions from the verifiers and were praised for their enthusiasm and pride in the language.

Visitors then observed classes across the school taking part in a range of Welsh activities and were highly impressed by the level of Welsh spoken by pupils and the positive attitude towards learning the language.

To achieve the Gold Award, the school has worked hard over a number of years to embed Welsh into daily life. This has included creating outdoor Welsh provisions such as a Pod Siarad, introducing daily Welsh reading sessions, and organising special events where Welsh visitors came into school to enrich pupils’ experiences.

The school was described by verifiers as a calm and welcoming environment with kind, confident and sociable pupils.

Geraint Morgan, Welsh coordinator, said: “This is a huge achievement for our whole school community. The Gold Award reflects the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment shown by our pupils, staff and families. Ardderchog pawb – we did it!”
