There is huge praise for our local fire fighters who battled a fast spreading blaze on a hill near Middletown.
Welshpool Fire Station (who took these pictures) said it had been “a tough day” after a 150mx100m area of dry gorse, bracken and grass was ablaze on Monday late afternoon.
Fire fighters from Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanfyllin were joined by firefighters from Oswestry with a spokesperson from that station saying: “Crews worked very hard in the hot conditions to bring the fire under control so quickly.”
The area has been baking under glorious sunshine for over a month but warning remain in place not to BBQ in the open, and to be careful discarding cigarettes and anything made of glass.
There are a few more dry days ahead, but it is hoped that some rain may finally fall at the weekend.]
