It could have been a disaster

Despite the warnings, visitors to our countryside are still disregarding cigarette ends and having BBQ’s in our bone-dry countryside, prompting one business to call for common sense.

Fire fighters are stretched to the limit at present dealing with grass fires across the area, but thankfully a disaster was avoided on Saturday thanks to the quick work of Llanfyllin Fire Station.

Posting on its social media page, Dafarn Newydd, Village Stores and Takeaway, shared this picture to raise awareness of the problems encountered near Lake Vyrnwy.

“Please be careful people,” they posted on Sunday. “Yesterday, we had to call Llanfyllin Fire Station to deal with a fire on Glyndwr’s Way, close to the shop.

“If it had not been for the prompt actions of Stephen Dale this would have been a much bigger incident. Thank-you Steve, and to the firefighters who attended.

“It may have rained a little but please use common sense! Do not have garden fires, BBQs or camp fires anywhere near Lake Vyrnwy.”
