As pupils return, high school applications open for 2027!

As schools make their way back after the gloriously sunny summer holidays, parents and carers of children due to start Year 7 in September next year can now apply for a secondary school place.

Applications are open until Friday October 30, 2026 for children born between September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016 and can be made online via the Powys County Council website, where parents and carers can also find information about different schools, catchment areas, home-to-school transport and admissions arrangements.

Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said: “Moving to secondary school is an important milestone in a young person’s education. I would encourage all parents and carers of children due to start Year 7 in September 2027 to apply as early as possible and not wait until the deadline.

“Applying on time will help ensure your application is considered alongside all other on-time applications.”

Parents and carers will receive the results of their application on Monday, March 1, 2027.
