Town Council to launch ‘Visit Welshpool’ app

03/09/2026 @ 12:49

A big push to position Welshpool as a desirable place to visit has been launched by the Town Council which is set to approve a range of initiatives to promote the town.

The new Visit Welshpool will present a fresh face to the world, and comprise of smart branding, a mobile phone application and web site, business forums, town guide and a shopping voucher scheme.

It is hoped that the initiative will encourage not only more visitors to stop in the town, but also drive local business as Welshpool gears up to host the Tour de France in the summer of 2027.

At last night’s Events & Planning Committee meeting, councillors were shown the latest designs for the app and gave the green light for the Visit Welshpool concepts to be forwarded to full council for approval later this month.

They were also told that the first Business Forum would be held at the end of September and that the voucher scheme, encouraging people to shop local, will be launched once a design competition had been judged.

The mobile app particularly impressed councillors after hearing it had been “developed entirely in-house by utilising existing officer resources”.

“Doing this internally has enabled the Council to create a bespoke platform specifically designed around the needs of Welshpool whilst avoiding the considerable ongoing licensing costs associated with commercial tourism applications,” the report states.

It includes an interactive map of the town, an ‘explore Welshpool’ section and even live bus times. It will also include a trails section to allow people to find the best local walks and bike rides.

The recommendation to forward on to full council for approval was passed unanimously.
