Play it again, Sam

Sam Williams has been tasked with the job of getting Montgomery Cricket Club promoted back to Division One of the Shropshire County Cricket League.

A challenging 2017 resulted in the Lions’ first eleven being relegated from Division One but Sam, who was re-appointed captain at this week’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), is confident he has the talent at his disposal to bounce straight back up.

He will have last season’s leading run scorer Aaron Ruff-Cock as his deputy and said: “Last season wasn’t easy for anyone at the club but I firmly believe we have the players and the strength in-depth to get ourselves back into Division One.

“The last time we played Division Two cricket we won the title and that has to be our ambition again come 2018. We have some talented players at Montgomery and some very exciting young cricketers pushing for a place in the first team.”

Brian Corfield will once again skipper the second string, with David Jones as his vice-captain, and after winning promotion last season they are targeting a strong campaign in the Shropshire Reserve Division One.

The full committee appointed at the AGM is: John Jones (President), Stan Davies (Vice-President), John Barker (Chairman), David Thomas (Secretary), Andrew Barker (Treasurer), Victoria Ruff-Cock and Anne Griffiths (Child Welfare Officers), Andrew Black (Fixtures Secretary), Sam Williams (First Team Captain), Brian Corfield (Second Team Captain), Keith Griffiths (Youth Team Manager), Richard Jones (Communications Officer), Jonathan Williams, Ian Fletcher, Thomas Corfield and David Jones (Committee Members) and Mark Cadwallader (Accounts Certifier).
