Welshpool Rugby Club has confirmed that Head Coach, Dave Roberts, will take on the added responsibility of Chairman next season as the club looks to build for an exciting future.

Following a decent 2018/19 season which ended with silverware, the club is well position to kick on next campaign with the new Chairman/Head Coach sharing his thoughts with MyWelshpool.

“In the last 12 months we have achieved an awful lot,” he said. “We are fortunate and very grateful to partner with some wonderful local businesses and organisations who help us to deliver rugby to our community alongside an incredibly hardworking and brilliant group of volunteers.

“In the last season alone we have seen our senior men’s team win back to back Mid Wales shields and record a narrow loss in the final of the North Wales intermediate plate. We have started a weekly over 35’s touch rugby session with great success, our women’s team have continued to go from strength to strength including U18s and U15 as part of the Rebels WRU female rugby hub.

“We continue to develop our junior rugby for boys and girls within the community which will see a rebrand and relaunch for the new season. We have held a primary school tag festival for all local primary schools as well as DreFest, our community touch rugby and music festival.

“That is just on the pitch. Off the pitch we have raised over £1,500 for Wales Air Ambulance, we have successfully started our club lotto which has so far paid out £1,100 in prize money since its inception in October.

“We have installed a new pitch side catering and first aid facility with the support of the WRU and Welshpool Town Council. None of this could have been achieved without our incredible commercial and community partners.

“Our plans for the future are even grander. We have recruited well this season off the pitch and have an exciting and forward thinking committee who are looking to help drive our vision of being a truly inclusive community club offering rugby and its facilities to all.

“We extend a warm welcome to all at the club whether that is as a supporter, a member, a sponsor, a player, a parent or a volunteer. We hope to welcome many more people to Maes y dre this season and continue our success on and off the field.”
