Tom Anderson produced a heroic bowling display, but couldn’t prevent Newtown slipping to a one-wicket defeat at home to high flying Shifnal in Division One.
Anderson produced figures of 6-21 as Newtown doggedly defended their meagre target of 91, of which Ryan Davies hit 37. The visitors, who were 66-9 at one stage, eventually secured victory with a brilliant last wicket stand.
Charlie Kinsey tore through Lilleshall as Montgomery got back to winning ways after a disappointing few weeks in Division Two.
Having broken into the first team, the young seam bowler gave his best performance to date with 6-26.
Having batted first, Montgomery scored 206-6 with Aaron Ruff-Cock scoring 57. Charlie Clinton (33), Rob Bennett (30no) and Tim Davies (28) were also in the runs.
In reply, Montgomery dismissed Lilleshall for 119. Adding to Kinsey’s six wickets were Ruff-Cock (2-23) and Sam Williams (2-28).
Welshpool finished well short of the 243-5 target set by Worfield to remain bottom of Division Two. Opener Paul Chapman (48) got the reply off to a decent start and despite Patrick Davies (22) and James Breese (24) adding decent knocks, Welshpool finished short on 142.
Montgomery II were bowled out for 66 at Market Drayton - and then very nearly went on to win the match following an inspired bowling and fielding performance in Division Five.
No batsman reached double figures on a tricky batting wicket as the Second XI crumbled.
But the team, who have stuck together through a challenging couple of seasons, regrouped and quickly dismissed Market Drayton’s openers in the first over.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals but the home side eventually stumbled over the line to finish 68-7 in the 17th over.
Tim Hughes (4-34) and Morgan Matthews (2-24) both bowled incredibly well, while there were great catches in the field for Dave Jones, Keith Griffiths and Alex Matthews.
Newtown II were also well beaten, failing to defend 159-4 at Condover despite 57 not out from Richard Smout and 32 from Paul Hawthorne.
Guilsfield remain second in Division Six after returning from Harcourt with the spoils thanks to another inspired display from all-rounder Duncan Todd.
Todd took 4-23 as Harcourt amassed 143, a total that wasn’t enough as Todd’s unbeaten 51 and useful knocks from Rupert Shingler (25) and Andy Clements (21) saw the villagers make it home with two wickets in the bank.
Adrian Foulkes continued his brilliant form with 4-23 as Llanidloes made short work of Quatt to stay top of Division Seven.
The visitors were restricted to 111 as a result, paving the way for the Llani batsmen to secure victory with six wickets to spare. David Owen top scored with 37.
Welshpool II remain in the bottom two of Division Eight after a low scoring defeat at home to Chirk II. Greg Jones (5-13) helped to restrict the visitors to 84 but Welshpool were all out for just 51 in reply.
