Disappointing day at the crease

Weather claimed the games involving Welshpool, Newtown II and Montgomery II but it was a disappointing day for local clubs in the Henshalls Shropshire League on Saturday.

Newtown bowled themselves into a winning position in Division One, but their batting collapsed to suffer a disappointing defeat at Shrewsbury II.

Dave Laird (4-16) and Joe Monk (3-24) destroyed Shrewsbury for just 106 runs, but it was definitely a bowlers’ track as Newtown were dismissed for 55.

Montgomery failed to defend 192 at Worfield in Division Two, with Aaron Ruff-cock (43), Rob Bennett (35) and Tim Davies (30), among the runs.

Despite early losses, Worfield cruised home in the 37^th over for the loss of five wickets.

Welshpool’s match was cancelled and Guilsfield were without a fixture in Division Six.

The only other match to be held involved Welshpool II who were beaten at Lilleshall III after being bowled out for 113 in Division Eight.
