Another big night of darts

29/08/2019 @ 02:37

On a night of scintillating Newtown Premier League darts full of high scoring and high averages, it was Neil Astley who almost stole the limelight.

Although his match with Garry Jones ended in a draw Astley kicked off his first leg with six perfect darts and the magical nine darter was on, sadly he narrowly missed the seventh treble 20 and allowed Jones to steal the leg and force the draw.

Mark Layton defeated reigning champion Gareth Ashley in another high class encounter. Layton hitting an impressive 32.32 average and Ashley a respectable 29.85. Ashley also suffered a second defeat to Steve Price (28.90). Ashley’s 27.50 was not enough in a 4-2 defeat.

In another classic, Chris Hurds hit a 31.81 average in defeating Rob Shingler 4-0, despite the latter throwing a respectable 27.37.

Mitch Butler remains on course for the Finals night with a 26.72 average, enough to defeat Dave Boyle 4-0. Paul Bordewey kept his hopes of qualification alive with a 4-2 victory over Martin Rees.

Three matches and three wins enabled Craig Davies, another previous winner, to also stake his claim for qualifying.

It’s all to play for with just four weeks left.
