Rob makes the big time

Guilsfield referee Rob Jenkins was in the international spotlight last night, taking charge of his first A-grade football match between Ireland and New Zealand in Dublin.

Rob has risen through the ranks of local football to reach the top, and the FIFA referee finally took his big chance last night with a composed display with the whistle.

The match finished 3-1 to the Irish, with Rob not required to issue a yellow card all game.

“It was a fantastic occasion last night, taking charge of my first A international fixture, supported by a top class refereeing team,” said Rob (right).

The young official is keen to use his experience to encourage more people to take up the whistle and ease the chronic shortage of referees in the local game. For more information, visit www.becomearef.wales.
