Hold your horses, clubs warned

Local football clubs have been told to check the rule book before going after players for the 2020/21 season.

Covid-19 brought an early finish to last season, and some clubs are under the impression that it is open season on signing new recruits.

But Football Association of Wales Council Member for Central Wales, Graham Evans, has told clubs that they need to be patient.

He Tweeted this morning: “No players can be registered until 20/21 window opens. Terms can be agreed with out of contract ‘professional’ players. ‘Amateur’ players remain registered with 19/20 club. Players can deregister via FAW. Clubs can inform player to find new club.”

It was also pointed out that clubs are not able to offer seven days’ notice to approach another club’s player until the new registration window opens. That date is still to be confirmed.
