‘Local’ cricket league announced

14/07/2020 @ 02:18

The long-awaited return of local cricket will come on July 25 with the Shropshire Cricket League revealing their rejigged leagues this afternoon.

Covid-19 has wiped out the season so far, but the green light has been given to start next week with league officials lumping most of the Welsh clubs into a regional league.

While Newtown (Division One) and Montgomery (Division Two) will play in their original divisions which have been split into two leagues of eight, Welshpool, Guilsfield, Newtown II, Montgomery II, Llanidloes and Bishop’s Castle will play in a Wales & West division.

The idea is to cut down on the travel distances with players expected to arrive at games in their own transport already changed, and bring their own food and drink as part of the new safety regulations in place.

Welshpool II will play in a ‘Border League’.
