Davies blazes to Chester win

Forden long distance runner Andrew Davies has overcome the disappointment of his main priority for the season being cancelled by winning Sunday’s Chester Half Marathon.

Davies has been training hard for November’s World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Lanzarote, but with that being a victim of Covid-19, the college lecturer has shown he is still in great shape with a storming win on the road.

The Chester event was held with social distancing protocols in place, making it a little different to the normal, but nevertheless Davies recorded a hard-earned victory.

“It was a good win, but I forgot how far 13.1 miles is though!” he said. “It was a well organised and extremely safe race day.”

His winning time of 65 minutes 51 seconds was over a minute slower than his personal best of 64:46 at last year’s Lake Vyrnwy Half, but Davies said: “Considering everything I was happy to get a good time.”

Despite uncertainty ahead caused by more tightening of Covid-19 restrictions, Davies said he will still target the Wrexham Marathon on October 18 and Gower Ultra (33 miles) on November 14.
