Club anger after Covid kick-about

Berriew Football Club are fuming after what appears to have been a lockdown-breaking kick-about was held on their football pitch.

Officials found considerable damage to the surface of the pitch this weekend, with the surface churned up by players who must have been kitted out in the football boots.

In their appeal for information, the Berriew Recreation Association, who posted this picture on Facebook, said they were “very disappointed” to learn that despite the current lockdown provisions, “a large number of individuals congregated on the main pitch in order to play an unofficial football match”.

A  Berriew Football Club spokesman said: “It is frustrating that the individuals felt it appropriate to play a football match, during a time when the vast majority of the public are making huge sacrifices and abiding by the lockdown measures.

“Not only that, the weather last week was atrocious and they have caused considerable damage to the pitch.”
