A new sports star has popped up on the MyWelshpool talent radar this week after 12-year-old Rhys Butler made a winning start to his men’s darts career.
Rhys has been playing darts for as long as he can remember, which is not surprising considering his father Mitch is a recent Welsh international.
“This is definitely a boy to watch!” said our darts correspondent, Steve Lloyd. “Welshpool & District Darts League has a proud record for producing players that have gone on to represent our country and we hope this young man can continue to set records.”
Rhys made his league debut last week and won his match 2-0 for the Green Dragon A at Castle Caereinion where proprietors of the Red Lion, Richard and Joan, allowed the youngster to play and commented that “he played very well”.
There are no records to confirm that Rhys is the youngest player for the league, but his winning start certainly shows he was worthy of his place.
