Guilsfield & Llandrinio continued their stunning early season form in Shropshire Division Three with a comfortable victory at their LHG Oval against Whitchurch II.
With rain forecasted, early wickets were key and Guilsfield’s bowlers shared them around to dismiss their visitors for just 109.
It was then down to the batsmen to beat the incoming rain with Twinkle Jose blasting a swashbuckling 68 not out from 32 balls, supported by fellow opener Andy Flann (37).
The seven-wicket win puts them third, just three spots above Welshpool who picked up their third win on the bounce at Newport II.
Welshpool were dismissed for 149 with Charlie Kinsey (41no) top scoring, but it was the bowlers who secured victory with a brilliant response whittling the hosts out for 140. Matt McWhinnie (4-26) and Rob Anderson (4-23) being the chief destroyers.
Newtown’s match at St George’s fell victim to the rain midway through in the Premier League, and Montgomery’s Division One encounter at Quatt II went the same way.
Llanidloes and Newtown II sit second and third respectively in Division Four after wins on Saturday.
Harry Jones took 3-30 as Llanidloes were set 189-6 by Priorslee to chase, allowing Josh Hugo (76), Andrew Jones (45no) and Rob Davies (38no) to secure an eight-wicket win.
Freddie Roberts took 3-14 as Newtown II dismissed Harpers for just 130, paving the way for Russell Powell (47) to lead the charge to victory in the 39th over.
In Division Six, Russell Cadwallader (38) top scored as Welshpool II were bowled out for 109, eventually suffering an eight-wicket defeat against Knockin and Kinnerley II.
Tom Corfield and T. Oxborrow claimed three wickets each to ensure Montgomery II picked up a big win at Acton Reynald, who were dismissed for 102 in Division Five. Elwyn Turner (29no) and Oxborrow (26no) ensured there were no problems in reply.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio II’s struggles with the bat continued again as only one player reached double figures in their eight-wicket defeat to Whittington. Batting first, the villagers were bowled out for 55.
In the Sunday leagues, Newtown III picked up a three-wicket win at Alberbury III in Division Three, while Llanidloes IIsuffered a home defeat against Willey III.
