A popular local ultra runner will be joining children at Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School for a challenge event, with the town urged to back the kids.

The Sports for Champions Fundraiser will take place on Thursday, May 23, with Alan Bateson helping them to raise funds for the school and the charity, Sports for Champions UK, who support aspiring young athletes.

As part of the visit, the children will be given an inspirational talk to support their mental and physical wellbeing. Alan will also set them a circuit training challenge for which they will be collecting sponsorship.

The school is hoping local businesses can support.

“We are asking local businesses to show their support and help us raise key funds by either clicking on the link (below),  The Welshpool CiW Primary School fundraiser - a Community crowdfunding project in Welshpool by Sports For Champions UK (CIC) (crowdfunder.co.uk)  to make a donation to our circuit training challenge,” said a school spopkesperson.

“If you add your business name in the message box, we will make sure to thank you in the school newsletter and in any social media posts or press articles.

Sports for Champions UK events are held in support of schools, which keep 60% of the funds raised to spend on resources that will enrich young people’s educational experiences.

Professional athletes in need of support, for example to attend the Olympics or Paralympics, are the beneficiaries from the remaining 40%.
